This was a really lovely house set between Oxford and Henley on Thames with a good sized back garden. The client mainly wanted help with the terrace area and the linking of the terrace to the garden beyond. They enjoy playing tennis in the summer and there was an area of lawn that we planned with the exact dimensions for an un-marked grass tennis court, on which they could put up a net at will.
The width of the house was exceptional so we were careful to break the terrace up and introduced a brick pattern in the stone paving to delineate the different areas.
The client was very keen on having a water feature, which we centred in the terrace so that in the winter it can be enjoyed from the main reception room inside, particularly at night when it the water feature is lit up. Upon the arrival of a grandchild this water feature was topped with a grate on which large pebbles were laid for safety.
The borders were a particular success with the planting providing year round pleasure in a pastel palette; lavender borders hug the house and give off a wonderful scent all through the summer.
